Another Mephistopheles news
16/10/2025
.jpg)
The Fiat Mephistopheles is just about finished at last, and I am rather please with it. I think it is a very impressive model. A mixture of old fashioned carved body moulded in resin (plus a few parts) and a new 3DP chassis, wheels and chain drive. It will be up on the car page in a few days, just got to do a few more photos. From the initial reaction it seems like it is going to be a popular one so make sure to get your orders in soon, I may do a pre order page in the meantime.
What I find with model making is that it is often a compromise, you are making a model that needs to fulfil a certain function as a slot car. So the art is in knowing where to compromise between that design and function while still making it look good. I think we have dont this is pretty exceptionally with this Fiat, and I hope you agree.
As you may have seen we are currently using an anonymous suggestion box that anyone can use to give us feedback etc.
The link is as follows: https://freesuggestionbox.com/pub/qyqfigw
So we will try and answer a few of the suggestions we receive.
First off concerning discounts etc. As standard we offer a 10% discount if your order value is more than £220 (between 4-5 kits depending on value). We also offer free postage on all orders over £360 (this combines with the 10% discount). For large/ trader orders we are open to negotiation.
We also do offer periodic free postage weekends, sales etc. With Christmas coming up many of you are likely expecting the cull sale we do...
We had a suggestion that the postage charges are quite high. For all of our postage we set it at roughly £1 above the royal mail rate to account for collection, boxes, packaging, labels, and other related stuff. Unfortunately, postage is high now nomatter what. We are currently experimenting with Shopifies discounted rates (only available for UK postage), however as we have less control this may or may not continue so we will have to see. If people know of reliable and cheap carriers who can collect and deliver internationally from the UK, suggestions are always welcome.
Just a note on discounts and free postage. If a company offers a discount on most of their stock for most of the time, that is not really a discount, that is what it should be priced at normally. And in the same vein, if a company offers free postage all the time, it is not actually free, they just recoup the cost elsewhere.
For the most part, this is not feasible for us as if we offered free postage all the time, we would have to increase our prices by at least £5 per model to compensate for the cost of international postage. This would not be fair overall. Trust us when we say we manage our prices as best we can. I drive a 20 year old Volvo estate that makes some funny noises, so we keep things as fair as possible for our customers. This is fundamentally two people and a workshop in the back garden remember.
Next suggestion, interest from someone in the Chaparrals and King Cobra but not going ahead because wheel inserts are not included. Not sure why they believe this one as wheel inserts and wheels are included in that variant.
Specific links for these cars with wheel inserts are as follows:

Next suggestion: Paint codes, yes this one is a good idea. The main issue we find is that some paints are not available internationally, or even locally sometimes. Also, our rule of thumb, go by what looks right. If it seems like the right colour then it probably is. And who is to tell you that you are wrong, it is your model afterall.
A suggestion about seperate detail kits, to improve older models or add bits to models. Could be interesting, definitely would need weighing up in terms of economy.
More Record Breakers: this definitely seems to be an interesting avenue at the moment that has quite a nice niche. We will definitely be considering more of these, and making our existing ones more obvious.
Aston Martin Ulster: Nice car, I believe matchbox did a kit of this which could be used as the basis. One to consider.
Super Saloons: Interesting, specific suggestions always useful.
Minis: In 1.32 scale these are tricky as so many companies have done them already, so finding a big enough market for people to buy ours is tricky. Possibly in 1.24 though as this is a bit more open.
Lotus 12: One to consider, not a car I know a great deal about. On this one there was a note about it being a disadvantage there only being one livery for the car. What we have found is if we release a car it might sell 30 units (arbitrary number for this example). If it has one livery it will sell 30, if it has two liveries it will still only sell 30 (split between the two liveries) and now we have spent twice as much to have artwork done (our most expensive prototyping cost). Unfortunately, more liveries does not equal more sales as useful as that would be. So when we do multiple decal sets, we have to be sure there is enough of a market for both of them.
Vauxhall Viva HB GT: Nice car, might be a bit too similar to our Firenza for us to make economic though.
Can Ams: Definitely ones to consider in this category.
March 707: Interesting subject, could be one for the future.
Mclaren M8D but with correct width: Unfortunately, where this one has already been done by other manufacturers it means there would not be enough of a market for us to bring it out.
Right that is all the suggestions we had so far. Keep them coming or feel free to discuss them.
